LGBTQIA+ Affirmative Therapy in Glasgow

At Dr Craig Dunn & Associates Psychology Services, we are committed to providing inclusive, affirmative, and evidence-based LGBTQIA+ therapy in Glasgow. We recognise that many lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, non-binary, and gender-diverse individuals continue to face unique challenges that can impact mental health, wellbeing, relationships, and self-esteem.

Our approach is not based on the belief that LGBTQIA+ identities are problems to be treated. Instead, we provide a safe, affirming therapeutic space where you can explore your experiences, strengthen your sense of self, and work towards the life you want to live.

How LGBTQIA+ Therapy Can Help

Many LGBTQIA+ individuals seek therapy for the same reasons as anyone else, including:

  • Anxiety and stress

  • Depression and low mood

  • Self-esteem and confidence difficulties

  • Relationship challenges

  • Trauma and adverse life experiences

  • Grief and loss

  • Work-related stress and burnout

  • Emotional regulation difficulties

However, therapy may also provide support with experiences that are more commonly encountered within LGBTQIA+ communities, such as:

  • Exploring sexual orientation and identity

  • Gender identity exploration

  • Gender dysphoria

  • Coming out to family, friends, or colleagues

  • Internalised shame and self-criticism

  • Minority stress and discrimination

  • Family rejection or relationship difficulties

  • Navigating transition-related experiences

  • LGBTQIA+ relationship and family issues

  • Managing the emotional impact of prejudice, bullying, or exclusion

An Affirmative and Inclusive Approach

Our therapists work from an LGBTQIA+ affirmative perspective, meaning we recognise and celebrate diversity in gender, sexuality, identity, and relationships. We strive to create an environment where clients feel respected, understood, and accepted without judgement.

We understand that many people have previously experienced discrimination, misunderstanding, or invalidation within healthcare settings. Our aim is to provide a therapeutic relationship that feels safe, collaborative, and empowering.

Our LGBTQIA+ practitioners

Our LGBTQIA+ practitioners bring both professional expertise and a deep commitment to understanding the diverse experiences of LGBTQIA+ individuals and communities. We recognise the impact that identity, relationships, discrimination, minority stress, and societal expectations can have on wellbeing, and we strive to provide a space where clients can feel fully seen, respected, and accepted.
