Types of Therapy We Offer
At Dr Craig Dunn & Associates Psychology Services, we offer a range of therapies to support adults, children, young people, and families. Each approach is grounded in psychological research and is tailored to meet the individual needs of every person we work with.

We know that everyone’s journey is different and so is the kind of therapy that might feel most helpful. Some people prefer a more structured, goal-focused approach, while others benefit from exploring emotions and experiences at their own pace in a safe and reflective space.Below, you can read more about each type of therapy: how it works, what it can help with, and what you might expect in sessions.

Schema Therapy
What is Schema Therapy?
Schema Therapy is an evidence-based therapeutic approach that helps individuals understand and change long-standing patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving — known as schemas. These patterns often develop in childhood or adolescence as a way of coping with unmet emotional needs and can continue into adulthood, influencing how we see ourselves, relate to others, and respond to challenges.

Schema Therapy combines elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), attachment theory, emotion-focused techniques, and psychodynamic insights. It is particularly helpful for people who feel “stuck” in repetitive life patterns, struggle with self-criticism, relationship difficulties, or emotional instability.

How does it work?
Schema Therapy begins by helping clients identify their schemas — deep-rooted beliefs or themes such as abandonment, mistrust, failure, or perfectionism — and recognise how these shape their emotions, behaviours, and relationships in the present.

Through a supportive therapeutic relationship, the therapist works collaboratively with the client to understand where these schemas originated and to develop healthier ways of meeting emotional needs. The process may involve experiential techniques, such as imagery work or chair dialogues, alongside cognitive and behavioural strategies.

Sessions are structured but flexible, allowing space for reflection, emotional processing, and skill development. Therapy is usually medium to long term, depending on the client’s goals and the depth of the patterns being addressed.

Benefits of Schema Therapy
Research shows that Schema Therapy can be highly effective for people who have not found other approaches fully helpful, especially for those dealing with chronic anxiety, depression, or difficulties rooted in early life experiences. It supports clients in building stronger self-awareness, emotional resilience, and more fulfilling relationships. Many people describe Schema Therapy as a process of understanding themselves on a deeper level and learning to respond with greater self-compassion and balance.
